About Our Founder

I'm Alexandra (Sasha) Schoettler, and I’m a senior at Pali High. Like all of us, I’ve been feeling a bit scared and helpless during this time of crisis, and I’ve been looking for a way to help support families dealing with sickness and loss due to COVID-19. As someone who has dealt with loss myself — my father had cancer and passed away in 2010 — I know that one of the most important and helpful ways to grieve is to spend time with your family and friends. However, due to the stay-at-home orders and social-distancing rules, many people who have to cope with loss during this global pandemic are unable to lean on their loved ones in the way we’re all used to. OUR HOUSE Grief Support Center, an organization that helped me when I lost my father, is working to help adults, teens, and children who are experiencing loss during these uncertain and frightening times through grief support groups and phone sessions.

I'm supporting OUR HOUSE through donations raised by the neighborhood concert series that my mom and I have organized called Fiddler on the Lawn. We want to bring music to the community as well as raise as much money as we can in order to help those dealing with loss of loved ones during this global pandemic and more.

What We're Doing Now

Sasha is so proud that the program she started has gained such a following with its audience of neighbors, as well as a dedicated cadre of musicians who love to come play each week. Our supporters have chipped in to raise $5000 for OUR HOUSE Grief Support Center over the 14 concerts last summer! We're all so grateful.

And now, in 2021, we continue to ask for donations to support OUR HOUSE and the musicians who have lost work as a result of COVID-19. Activity at recording studios and performing arts venues has been severely restricted since the onset of the virus, and no one knows when things will get back to normal. The musicians who perform at Fiddler on the Lawn are professional musicians, who played regularly with many local performing arts organizations, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Los Angeles Opera Company, and all the recording studios which bring you the music you hear when you go to the movie theater (or when you once went to the movie theater . . .). They (we) are so happy to have a forum in which to play music with these performances, but sadly struggle to know how they will carry on. Your donations will help them to feel secure knowing that the arts and music are still important in today's world.

Thank you for all your interest, enthusiasm, and support!!
